Apple Nappies

I  first cooked  these years ago when I was asked to recipe test them for a  recipe book for  students that went away on camp for a month and had to cook all their meals, My daughter renamed them Apple nappies due to their shape ,I think I would of called them something like and apple turnover !!. they are quite wonderful and super easy. recipe came from Annabel Langbein

  • 3 Apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 2 sheets of flaky pastry
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoons either castor sugar or brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 hot water
  • 1 good tablespoon golden syrup

  1. Preheat oven to 200ºC
  2. prepare the apples and  place in a bowl with the sugar and cinnamon
  3. Defrost he pastry and cut each sheet into 4 squares
  4. Place about 5 slices of apples ( depending on the size of the apples ) into the middle of the pastry  squares
  5. Bring up the sides of the pastry and press each side seal so it sort of resembles a nappy
  6. Place in a small baking dish lined with baking paper
  7. combine the maple syrup and golden syrup and water together in a small jug
  8. Using a brush , brush the apple nappies with the maple syrup mixture generously  ( there will be some left but you need this )
  9. Place in the hot oven and cook for 10 minutes , baste with the syrup mixture snd use the mixture also from the baking dish
  10. Place back in oven for a further 1o minutes and repeat the basting
  11. Place back in oven for 5 minutes and repeat until the nappies are golden and and sticky
  12. Once cooked remove from the oven and if you have any syrup left drizzle over
  13. serve with vanilla yoghurt or ice cream
